Workout 101
I fell off the wagon. I mean I fell off, the damn thing ran me over and then,
when I just lay there with no intention in hell of trying to get back up, the
wagon threw it in reverse and clobbered my ass again. Travel—it’s a bitch, and
when David Rich finds out what a bad student I’ve been these past few weeks,
he’s gonna be one too.

Around the Gym: Put Some Beef On Your Buns
In his 1995 chart-topper 'Baby Got Back', Sir Mix-a-Lot declared his love for
bountiful booties—and he's not alone! While most men enjoy bigger backsides, not
everyone has ample and well-proportioned buns. Is a big behind something you
have to be born with? Why is a beefy butt so hard to achieve? Are there secrets
to defined derrieres? Is a hard butt better than a naturally round one?

Smart Goals: The Keys to Fitness Motivation
Many people find that the most difficult part of their fitness program is
sticking with it. Often we drift from program to program, becoming passionately
dedicated to step classes one month, then Pilates or yoga the next. Sometimes we
drop fitness altogether, opting for life back on the couch. The problem is
motivation.

Around the Gym: How Does Media Impact Body Image?
Critical—some might say bitchy—by nature, we view ourselves and others with a
more scrutinizing eye. Whether aspiring to the hairless, sculpted muscle of the
Titan man or sinewy ideal set by Lance Armstrong (with both testicles, of
course), nearly every gay male's concept of perfection has been shaped by the
media.

Demystifying Core Training
Core training supplies a solid base for strength, stamina, and correct form in
most sports. And you know the result when you see it, because when a guy who's
committed to core training walks into the room, his sexy posture and confident

Around the Gym: Save Chicken Legs for the Barbecue
We all know him. He's that guy at the gym every day pumping his chest and arms
until they might burst, but never once touching the leg presses. A hulking
musclehead with legs so skinny he risks having them snap under his mass, he's
Faghorn Leghorn: victim of Gay Men's Chicken Leg Syndrome.

Armed and Dangerously Hot
Unlike some trickier muscle groups—like calves and glutes—strong, muscular arms
are part of most every gay man's workout routine. The reason is obvious: Big,
strong arms can make even the butchest guy want to be held! Here we check in
with a few RealJocks to find out what they think about beefy biceps, toned
triceps and the men who have them. Don't miss their tips to admirable arms!

5 Things To Look for In a Fitness Trainer - And Why
Motivation is of utmost importance in fitness training, and yet motivation is
one of the hardest things to achieve. This can be particularly true for someone

Workout 101 - Part Five of Six
Remember that part of the last column where I said I woke up excited every
morning to work out? Yeah, still waking up in the morning, but I’m not quite
sure excited is the right way to describe it. Some days I’m raring to go… some
days I want to beat the living crap out of David Rich, his Web based workout
plan and whatever lame ass came up with the idea for this f-ing story.

Great Gym Cardio Workouts
Boring. Monotonous. Draining. Training indoors gets a bad rap. But many athletes
who started out dreading the indoors find they get some of their most fantastic
cardio training on treadmills, spin bikes, and stair climbers. Why? Because
training indoors forces them to focus on their workouts and enables them to pump
up the resistance, all of which leads to better performance when they get back
outdoors.

Workout 101 - Part 4 of 6
It finally happened. Up until now, I have to admit, I’ve not once had this
workout plan kick my ass. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I’d go in there, give
85-percent (which is a good 30-40 percent more than I used to give), work up a
decent sweat, feel my muscles tighten, make three or four trips to the water
fountain and wander off to the locker room feeling good about myself. But David
Rich finally concocted the workout that kicked my ass.

Workout 101 – Part Three of Six
I jumped into the deep end, I took a flying leap off the bridge of life… I
walked around San Diego Pride without my shirt on, small peanuts for most, but
for me, a first (OK make that second... there were the twink years, which I try
desperately to forget sometimes). But for the first time in my life, I wasn’t
strategically placing bags or arms or cocktails in front of my gut to keep
people from noticing I hadn’t quite achieved my goals.
